ANIMAL EYES- in Different Media

 

Goals:  Students will investigate a variety of animal eyes, then choose one to use as a drawing reference.  Students will learn appropriate drawing vocabulary.  Students will learn various drawing and shading techniques by participating in various drawing exercises.  Students will draw an animal eye of their choice in three different media (pencil, colored pencil, and scratchboard) in a 4"x6" format.  They will build a range of value in all three drawings, including both shadows and highlights in order to produce dimension in their drawings.

Process:

 

PART 1 - Pencil

 

1.  Students will print and complete Drawing Vocabulary WS using the Visual Experience textbook and the Internet to look up definitions.  

 

2.  Students will investigate a variety of animal eyes and choose an interesting animal eye from the Internet.  They will then print their chosen eye SIZE 4"x6" in both color and B/W (to be demonstrated in class) to use for drawing reference.



   

                                                                   






Options:


Black and White:

1. With pencil sketch on a piece of 4"x6" drawing paper, students will accurately draw their animal eye using their B/W photo as reference. 


2. Students will begin to shade/add value to their animal eye line drawing.  

3.  Students will focus on creating a range of

 4-6 values and building contrast when shading their animal eyes.

3. Students can use sharpies to add textures

 




Colored Pencil


 1.  With pencil sketch on a piece of 4"x6" drawing paper, students will accurately draw their animal eye using their B/W photo as reference. using the method demonstrated in class.

 

2.  Students will complete the Colored Pencil Shading WS.  T.

 

3.  Once they have completed and turned in their Colored Pencil Shading WS, students will lighten pencil lines on their contour line drawing then begin adding color and value to their transferred line drawing of their animal eye.  

 

4.  Students will focus on developing value and color matching when adding color to their animal eyes.
