Demonstration-
Clay Terminology
Kiln: an oven that heats to very high temperature and is made to fire clay
3 techniques: pinch, coil, slab
Combined Pinch Pots
Slab
Wet clay: wet clay that is soft and easy to shape
Leather hard: clay that is partially dry and can be carved
Greenware: clay that is finished, dry( bone-dry clay is one of the most fragile states), and ready to be fired
Firing: the process of heating clay in a kiln
Bisque ware: clay that has been fired once
Underglaze: underglazes are formulated to be pigmented colored slips. The underglaze is it can be painted on either greenware or bisque-fired clay for the desired design.
Gloss Glaze( Over glaze, Clear glaze): a clear overglaze will seal the piece and make it non-porous. Non-porous surfaces are smooth and sealed so liquid and air cannot move through them.
